Raids target file-sharing operation

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Swedish police conducted raids across the country Tuesday as part of an international operation targeting a file-sharing operation known as "The Scene."

"The Scene" is an international network constructed in several layers that publishes copyrighted material on the Internet.

A police spokesman told the Swedish news agency TT the raids involve "a major case of suspected copyright infringement."

Acting on information provided by Belgian police, Swedish authorities detained four Swedes on suspicion of illegal file-sharing, said prosecutor Fredrik Ingblad.

Police seized computers and servers in the raids.

"The seizures in Sweden were done to find the servers," Ingblad said.

Locations raided Tuesday included the premises of PRQ, a Swedish Internet service provider that is home to servers for the whistle-blower Web site WikiLeaks.

A police spokesman said the action had nothing to do with WikiLeaks.

"The Scene" has been under investigation for two years.
